Here are some tools and articles that can be used to better track the activity that is happening around your Social Media Campaigns.

Using Google Analytics? Use this article to get much better data on who clicks what in your social media campaigns.  This is one of the most important but often overlooked tracking method.  Twitter May Bring More Site Traffic and Conversions Than You Know

Google Campaign URL builder.

Url shorteners also have tracking that can tell you how many clicked but they are not as good at providing indepth data as the above method. http://bit.ly/ http://su.pr/

This tool can give you details on who is following you, what they are like and can give you insights into your actions and what they mean.  www.twitteranalyzer.com

And We’re Back

January 19, 2010

As you may have noticed our last “meeting” was back in Nov.  We have been watching at the growing social media community in Grand Rapids with enthusiasm as well as the multiple events that have popped up.  We have seen new users come in and create new events and other outlets for learning have helped create a community that is energized and continually trying new things.  GRSM is almost a year old and with that we are going to be trying a few new things.

GRSM will be focusing on smaller topics, more focused content and niche solutions.  We want to listen to the community and bring in people and minds that can answer the questions that will move individuals and companies further.  To do that we are going to be focusing our meetings toward a specific platform or strategy.  While most of these topics will be for a larger audience we understand that some will benefit more than others.  With that being said, we are announcing our next meeting.

The next GRSM lunchtime meeting will be held at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation’s Building at 12pm on Jan. 27th. GRCF is located at 185 Oakes Street SW Grand Rapids, MI. (map). The topic for this meeting is “Tracking: Monitor Engagement.”  We will have a few speakers going through what they do to help monitor the impact of their efforts.  We will show methods for tracking Twitter and Facebook.  We will be working through how to integrate this into your current tracking programs along with how to take this information and adapt it to be explained and referenced.

This is a lunch event, but we are not providing lunch, so please visit local eateries and bring your food on in. Founder’s and Ritz Koney are both local places, along with many others. Come on out and invite a friend or co-worker that may have some interest. Spread the word and lets make this our largest event so far.

Again we will be live streaming the event for those that cannot attend, the stream can be found in the Tools tab up above. Also see the sidebar to follow us on Twitter.

Nov. 24 Virtual Meeting – Twitter Lists

November 23, 2009

We are going to be having a Virtual Meeting at 2pm on Tuesday Nov. 24.  The topic of this meeting is “Twitter Lists”. We will be discussing the ways lists can help set your user apart, how you can use lists as a resource, how to create lists in a way that increases the power and reach.  We will be using the service www.tinychat.com and will be posting  a link to the chatroom that the meeting will take place in.  This meeting is open to anyone interested, you can participate using a webcam and audio chat, or you can just use text chatting to ask questions or put out your thoughts or ideas.

These Virtual Meetings aim to fill the gap during the holiday season, to keep the conversations going and create a venue to ask and have questions answered.

GRSM Virtual Meeting

November 12, 2009

We understand that many of you that attend our events are busy and with the holiday season coming soon, we saw some conflicts with our normal dates for meetings.  To provide an alternative to meeting in Nov. and Dec. we are looking to hold a “Virtual Meeting”.

We are looking into the service www.tinychat.com. This service allows for unlimited user text chatting along with webcam video and and audio chat for up to 12 people.  For those who do not have a camera you can just type or if you just wanna not been seen but be heard.  We are looking to use this services because it also provides the ability to do screen sharing.  This will allow the moderator to show the group what they are looking at on their screen and walk thru platforms, ideas or technology.

We are interested to hear if this type of meeting is better for some of you, if this type of meeting might help you ask questions, and participate.  Please leave us some comments, Is this method of meeting good for you and your work situation?  Would a mid month virtual meeting and a end of the month regular GRSM be a good fit.  We see these virtual meetings as a round table to help walk eachother through problems or to serve as a roundtable.

Thanks and keep looking as we will be announcing the dates for the “Virtual Meetings” soon.

Grand Rapids Social Marketing Meetup, Oct. 22

October 21, 2009

Archive video of this event can be found here http://twitcam.com/4b9o

This month’s Grand Rapids Social Marketing event will be held at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation’s Building at 12pm on October 22nd. GRCF is located at 185 Oakes Street SW Grand Rapids, MI. (map)

Our presenter for this weeks meeting will be Ian MacLurg, Ian was in charge of the Social Media campaigns for ArtPrize.  It will be an open conversation about how Social Media can relate to an event and how to best utilize it to promote and encourge the public. There will be a short presentation and then those attending will be asked to break into smaller groups and start a discussion of different methods and different platforms. This type of event is great for those that are just beginning with social media or those that are knee deep in the social marketing pool.

This is a lunch event, but we are not providing lunch, so please visit local eateries and bring your food on in. Founder’s and Ritz Koney are both local places, along with many others. Come on out and invite a friend or co-worker that may have some interest. Spread the word and lets make this our largest event so far.

Sept. 24 Meeting

September 22, 2009

There will be no GRSM meeting for September.  The reasons for this are many, first, the speakers we originally wanted were unable to participate for a few reasons.  Second, we started to see much activity here in our planning of the event.  Third, we were going to try and present about ArtPrize but we realized a few things.

We realized that here at the GRSM planning headquarters we were getting spread a little thin working on ArtPrize. We realized that many of those that attend our meetings are also involved in one way or another and might have a hard time showing up.  We also realized what better way to understand Social Media than to see it in action.

So, we encourage you all to get out on Thursday, take the time you might have to come to GRSM and take a walk around town.  Tweet what you like, take pictures, videos, post on facebook.  See how your words can lead others to go places, see things, and continue their own conversations.  Become part of this conversation and take it all in.  I am sure there is no way to see it all but see this as a way to find a little time.

We want to thank you all for coming to our other events and we will be returning next month with a great appreciation of how social media can spread, encourage, and highlight an event such as this. thank you.

Aug. 27th Recap.

August 27, 2009

We had a smaller turnout but that provided us the ability to try something a little new.   A smaller group with one large discussion.

Topics ranged from Twitter and liability of employee tweets, to power searching, Facebook features and strategy.

This type of event is great for those that are just beginning with social media or those that are knee deep in the social marketing pool.

This event will be a little different than others, Outside food is not allowed, so please make arrangements to eat before you come or after.  Founder’s and Ritz Koney are both local places, along with many others.
